About Suzanne Balaes-Blair

Lyric soprano, Suzanne Balaes-Blair has had an extensive solo career performing with many of the country’s most respected opera companies interpreting leading roles in La Bohème, La traviata, Tosca, Cavalleria rusticana, Luisa Miller, Falstaff, Faust, Don Giovanni, La rondine, Gianni Schicchi, and Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah. She has appeared in concert and with opera companies such as Sarasota Opera, New York City Opera, Atlanta Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Chautauqua Opera, Dayton Opera, Mobile Opera, Boston Lyric Opera and Central City Opera.

A native of Massapequa and currently residing in Baltimore with her husband Michael and daughter Brynn, Ms. Balaes-Blair received her undergraduate training from Stony Brook University and then proceeded to New England Conservatory for her masters. She is the recipient of many prestigious awards, and as a young artist, was a vocal fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center as well as a Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. A founding board member of the Baltimore Concert Opera, Ms. Balaes-Blair performs locally in concert, as an ensemble artist with Lyric Opera Baltimore and as a soloist with various churches in the greater Baltimore area.

Engagements for the 2015-2016 season include the High Priestess in Aida with the Baltimore Concert Opera and a concert at the Bay Shore United Methodist Church, An Afternoon of Grand Opera and Classic Musical Theater.
